Defeating The King Of Pride (Part 4)
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
Another sign that you have allowed a prideful spirit to enter your life is that you have difficulty serving people. When the Leviathan spirit is dominant in your life, you want to be served. You want to come to church and receive and be tended to, but you have no desire to serve as an usher, greeter, children’s worker, or event volunteer. You think that everyone exists to serve you.
Jesus was a servant, and in one of the most powerful demonstrations of servanthood in the Bible, He took off his garment, kneeled down, and washed the disciples’ feet. He laid down His titles even though He was God in the flesh and set an example for all of us to follow. Jesus said to them, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” (John 13:14)
Jesus has called us to be servants. If someone hurts you, just “wash” it away. No matter who God places in your path, whether rich or poor, Democrat or Republican, white or black, you are called to serve them in love. Jesus washed the feet of Judas even though He knew he would betray him. He washed Peter’s feet even though He knew that Peter would deny that he knew Him.
To regain the breath of God in our lives and relationships, we need to pray against the spirit of pride and begin to serve one another. If you want to remove the spirit of pride from your life, pray this prayer today:
Jesus, I repent. I am so sorry. I’ve tried to do everything without you. It was nothing but pride, but today, I declare that I am free from the spirit of Leviathan. I receive forgiveness for this sin by the blood of Jesus Christ. Lord, please help me lean on you in prayer each day. Help me to use soft, kind words that lift people up. I want to be a covenant keeper. I want to have a servant’s heart like Jesus. Help me to be a foot washer. I thank you for hearing my prayers. I receive it. In Jesus’ name. Amen
