For Such A Time As This
“For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14
The first chapter of Esther begins with a huge beauty contest. Over 100 provinces sent their most beautiful women in hopes of winning the king’s affection. Esther, who was a Jew, won the competition and became queen. Later, the king put out a decree to kill all the Jews, which would have eradicated the entire nation of Israel. When Mordecai, Esther’s Uncle, learned about the decree, he went out into the middle of the city and cried out loud and bitter. He may have sounded like an extremist and a fanatic. Some may have thought he was making a big deal out of nothing at all.
Mordecai urged Esther to plead with the King to remove the mandate. Esther told him the king had a law stating that someone would be put to death if they went before him without being invited. They would be executed if the king did not extend the golden scepter. Mordecai responded to her, “If the King moves forward with this plan, do not think in your heart that you will escape.”
Esther can represent the body of Christ in the last days. We don’t want anybody to get upset with us. Many Christians are just trying to blend into the culture around them, but if we remain silent, one day, our children and our children’s children may not have the freedom to worship God.
God is urging us to care about our nation’s state and our families’ future. We may think Jesus isn’t really coming back soon, and the signs of the times are not happening. Mordecai’s words to Esther are God’s words to his church today: “Who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” You are on this planet at this hour for a reason. It is not an accident.
Many parents are ignoring all the battles that are going on in their children’s minds. Distorted definitions of marriage and gender are getting shoved at our kids at public schools and in the media. But the church is in a “beauty contest.” We don’t want any controversy. We don’t want anybody to talk bad about us. We want to be polite and politically correct.
Mordecai said, “Well if Haman has his way, he is going to kill all the Jews. And you’re one of them. So you can get involved and possibly lose your life, or you can sit back and do nothing and lose your life.” In these times, if the church just sits back and allows the world’s culture to take over, the current is so strong it may pull your children away to a path of destruction. We need to rediscover the power of the Holy Spirit, quoting the scriptures, pleading the blood of Jesus, and fasting to seek God’s face again. And we need to be reminded that our weapons are not carnal, but they’re mighty through God to pull down the strongholds that are coming against our families. Esther took a stand and saved a generation. God wants us to do the same thing today. We are alive for such a time as this.
