The Ripple Effect of Consecration (Part 2)
“Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did—with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.” 2 Kings 23:25
Daniel was known as a man who was sold out to God. It is interesting to note that when Daniel was a little child his king was Josiah. Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and the scriptures tell us that he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the example of David. When he became 16, the Bible said that he was stirred in his heart to clean out the temple because the whole land was in idolatry. As the people were cleaning out the temple, they came across Moses’ Ten Commandments and the law that Moses wrote from Genesis to the book of Deuteronomy. And at the age of 16, Josiah made them read to him the first five books of the Old Testament. He listened hour after hour and at some point, the word of God began to affect that 16 year old. The Bible said he started to weep because he knew Israel had backslidden. And Josiah started a revival in that nation.
Josiah had a father named Ahaz, who was a wicked, wicked man. But for some reason, he wasn’t named Ahaz Jr. He was named Josiah. At twenty-six, he went into a valley where the people were burning their children alive as human sacrifices and tore the idols down. He traveled all over the nation demolishing the shrines and false temples. He took out all the false priests and he burned down the houses of immorality. Josiah eradicated idol worship from the nation completely.
When Josiah was in his 40’s he came across a graveyard of kings that did evil in the sight of the Lord and the Lord again stirred his heart. Josiah commanded, “Dig their bones up and burn them on the altars of the false gods.” While he was there he came across one grave and asked, “What is that tombstone I see?” The people of the city said, “It marks the grave of the man of God who came from Judah and pronounced against the altar of Bethel the very things you have done to it.” Amazingly, a prophet had predicted 344 years before that a young king by the name of Josiah would be born who would burn the bones of the wicked king who was ruling at the time on that very altar made for idol worship! (1 Kings 13:2)
There is a call on this generation. It’s not too late for a revival. God needs one sold out person who will say, “I’ll consecrate my life to Him.” It’s astounding that 344 years before Josiah was ever born that God knew all he would do. Even though Josiah never knew it, there was a prophecy over his life that was working for 344 years. And the power of consecration through every phase of life got him to that moment of fulfillment where he burned the bones of the evil king. Consecration matters. Dedication to God matters. Pray today that you would be set on fire by the word of God and that you would have a righteous indignation to do what is right in the sight of God even while living in a corrupt generation.
What did God put you on this earth to do? He has a mighty purpose for you. God knows your name. He told Jeremiah, “Before you were in your mother’s womb, I knew you, called you, and ordained you to be a preacher, a prophet to the world.” God has mind blowing plans for you that you may not even be aware of yet. Consecrate and set yourself apart for God and you will see those plans come to pass.
