This Is Not Your Permanent Address

It is easy to identify a quitter. A quitter throws in the towel at the first challenge. It is also easy to identify a climber. A climber refuses to give up, no matter what. However, there is a third type of person who is harder to identify. That person I call a “camper.”

A camper is like a climber in that when they get knocked down by life, they get back up again. They will win and have some success. But, at some point, a camper stops climbing. They get satisfied with those little successes and start to feel like they’ve gone far enough, that life is good enough, and that they are comfortable enough.

Campers are not quitters, but they aren’t climbers either. They aren’t really reaching, climbing, grabbing, and fighting for more territory. They set up camp before they get to where God has shown them they are supposed to be.

Pitching your tent when you come to a campground is okay, but you’re only supposed to stay there long enough to get refreshed and renewed. You aren’t supposed to get a leather sectional and a cappuccino machine and make a tent your permanent address.

Campgrounds are great for sitting around the fire, roasting marshmallows, and hanging out with other campers, but you weren’t meant to settle there. If you’ve settled for less than God’s best in your marriage, your career, or your relationship with Him, it’s time to shake things up. Look up! Lift up your head. Turn your eyes back to the mountain and all that God has for you. Keep climbing!
