Blessed Be The Name Of The Lord

“He said, ‘I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!’ In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God.” Job 1:21-22

In the book of Job, we see an Old Testament story that everyone can relate to. If anybody ever went through severe trials, it was Job.

One day, there was an argument in heaven between God and Lucifer. God talked about how much Job feared and loved Him, but Lucifer said this was only because of God’s favor and blessing on his life. Lucifer said if he were allowed to take all of these things away, Job would curse God. God replied, “You can attack everything he has, just don’t touch his body.”

Job was one of the richest men alive. He had 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 oxen, and 500 donkeys. In one day, all of his animals and servants were killed. He lost all of his wealth. Right after that, Job’s beautiful family, his seven sons and three daughters, all suddenly died.

Job was broken and devastated, but instead of cursing God, he fell to the ground and said these powerful words, “The Lord gives, the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Lucifer couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He told God, “Let me attack his body, and then he will curse you.” God tells him to go ahead. The next day, boils break out on Job from the top of his head to the soles of his feet. Agonizing and tormenting, infection spread throughout his body. Job’s wife, who was still grieving over the loss of her ten children, told him to curse God and die. His friends came and discouraged him, but with everything going against him, Job still continued to believe in the goodness of God. He fully trusted Him in the darkest of times. Job knew his pain had a purpose, and his comeback story was later used to encourage countless others.

It doesn’t matter what you may be going through today. Don’t allow yourself to get bitter and turn away from God. He is still writing your story, and it has a happy ending. Your wounds will help others find hope in their lives.
