It’s Time For A Comeback (Part 3)

“Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more…” Judges 16:28

Judges 16 gives us one of the greatest comeback stories in the Bible. His name was Samson. Samson’s strength came from his seven locks of long hair. As long as he kept his locks, the Philistines couldn’t touch him. Samson fell in love with Delilah, and she eventually betrayed him by cutting his hair, which took away his strength.

Samson’s locks of hair can represent the standards that we, as Christ-followers, are called to keep. When we keep God’s standards, we lock the devil out. We stay strong in the Lord and the power of His might. Once Samson was stripped of his strength, the enemy began to further destroy him. First, the enemy took away Samson’s eyesight. Anytime you start compromising your standard, you lose your vision. You can no longer see the opportunities or the goodness of God.

Next, Samson lost his freedom. They put him in chains, and he couldn’t lift his hands up. When you lower your standards and give into sin, you lose your praise. You lose your prayer life. You begin to lose your love for God.

Later, the Bible said Samson started making bread for the enemy. He was feeding what he should have been fighting. Samson was raised to fight the Philistines, but now he’s feeding them. Any time you start feeding things that you should be fighting, it’s a sign that the enemy has you in a defeated place.

Then his enemies made sport of him. They no longer saw him as a threat. But Judges 16:22 tells us, “But before long, his hair began to grow back.” When they were not looking, something began to happen in Samson’s head. That’s where a comeback starts. Before you ever get up physically, financially, or spiritually, you get up mentally. When the Philistines were not looking, the strength they had taken from him was coming back. His love and faith in God was coming back. Then Samson cried out, “God, do it one more time!”

This is the cry that God looks for from the person who needs a comeback. If you want a comeback, cry, “God, do it one more time.” The enemy may have written you off, but God will restore your strength and make you come back stronger, and you will do more for His Kingdom than ever before!
