Just Do it!

“Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.” Ecclesiastes 11:4

There will come a time in your life when God will ask you to leave a place that is familiar and secure to move into a new mission. Jesus had to leave the pleasures of Heaven to come down to earth. His example shows us that sometimes we have to move away from our comfort zones to see God’s will be done.

In the New Testament story of the storm and the boat, Peter felt the call to step on the water and walk towards Jesus. The other 11 disciples just sat in the boat despite the fact that Jesus told all 12 of them that there was nothing to be afraid of.

We can trust God inwardly but there has to come a moment where you actually get up and step out into the unknown. And like Peter, sooner or later, once you get out of the boat, you will begin to sink. But that is just going to teach you dependence on God. God would rather you walk on the water and sink a little than sit in the boat and do nothing.

When God gives you a vision or a mission, it’s easy to talk about it, confess it, and even believe it, but there comes a time when you have to do it. The Bible said Abraham packed up his entire household and moved out not even knowing where he was going! If you’re going to wait until all your questions are answered, you’ll never do anything.

God is looking for bold men and women who are willing to abandon everything to see God’s mission be fulfilled in this world. Peter was a loud mouthed, hot head who cut off someone’s ear. He was combative with people, cussed all the time, and even lied on many occasions! But when Jesus asked Himself, “Who can I use to preach the most important sermon that the world will ever hear on the Day of Pentecost that will eventually birth the Church?” He may have thought, “That one right there! Peter. It was Peter who dared to get out of the boat to come to me on the water. It was Peter who was brazen enough to follow the guards as they took me away to be crucified. I think I’ll use him for this task. He’s got all kinds of problems and he’s not perfect but that man’s got the boldness and courage to get up and do it.
