Rocks In Your Bag

“The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:37

When David went to fight Goliath, he already knew he had some rocks in his bag. He didn’t just run out there. He had reliable and proven resources in his bag that he could use anytime. It is easy to feel helpless when a Goliath comes into your life. In these times, you have to be ready. You have to have something in your bag that you can use to defend yourself and your family against the enemy. When disaster, problems, and attacks show up, you’ve got to draw from your past. You’ve got to have some deposits in you before the crisis hits, so when the crisis comes, you can reach down deep and know that God will work on your behalf.

That’s why regular times of fasting and prayer are so vital. Those times strengthen you with the knowledge that “Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.”

The main difference between King Saul and King David is that one is absolutely sure that God is with him. One was fully persuaded. He was sure because of years spent with God in the fields. He had experienced God’s protection from the lions and the bears. His close personal relationship with God was how he was able to run out to the giant and say, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day, the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day, I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves, for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:45-47)

Don’t try to deal with a crisis with nothing in your spiritual bank account. When disaster, problems, and attacks show up, you’ve got to draw from your past, reach down deep into your bag and know that God will work on your behalf.
