Don’t Go To The Grocery Store Hungry

“See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done.” Hebrews 12:16-17

It is easy to make good decisions in ideal circumstances. But we also have to learn to make wise decisions in the worst times, when things are not going well. In the worst of times, you’ve got to make the best of choices. When things are not well at home or work, you still have to be rooted, settled, and have the truth of God’s Word as a shield of protection.

That’s why you should never go to the grocery store when you are hungry. You could have a list of 5 basic needs and still come out with an armful of junk food. It’s easy to make bad choices when you are hungry. In a spiritual sense, you need to make your choices when you’re full of God’s purpose, standards, and values. When you are hungry and impulsively put things in your cart you will end up having to pay for them. And it may hurt to see the total of the final bill.

If you have things “in your cart” that you shouldn’t have ever picked up, just know that you will have to pay for it eventually. 2 Corinthians 5 says that we will stand before the judgment seat of Christ and He’s going to say, “What is that doing in your cart?” When that time comes, it will be too late to put them back.

In Genesis 25, Esau came home famished one day after a long hunting trip. His brother Jacob, who was then named “deceiver” offered him his bowl of beans in exchange for his birthright. Esau made a terrible decision in a hungry moment that forever changed the course of his life. He let his flesh lead him in that decision and he said, “I’ll give you the birthright blessing if you’ll give me the bowl of beans.” But when it was time to check out, Esau didn’t want to pay the high price for his impulsive decision.

Live with a made up mind because one day you are going to have to pay for what’s in your cart at checkout. It’s going to cost you something if you live in the flesh. You will stand before the Lord and He will judge the good and the bad, and there are no second chances. That’s why you don’t need things in your cart that are not really helping you.

America is filling its cart with trash and forgetting that one day we’re going to check out and have to pay for it. And so when you see the White House lit up in rainbow colors, don’t think there’s not a price that’s going to be paid for going against God’s word and celebrating sin. We’re going to pay a price at checkout – if not in this life then in the life to come. You cannot abort millions of babies and try to change the genders of children and think there will be no price to pay. Don’t be deceived. Revelation 21 says, “And I saw a great white throne, and He that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heavens fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, (and their carts were examined)…the books were opened…and the dead were judged…” Pray for America and pray for yourself. Make sure your foundations are unmovable!
