A Dream That Drives You (Part 2)

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.” Acts 2:17

The amazing thing about sharks is if you put one in the aquarium, it’ll only grow to eight inches. But if you put it in the ocean, it’ll grow to eight feet or more. The point is simply this: A shark will never grow larger than its environment.

And the same is true about you. If all you do is stay in little, narrow-minded mud puddles of small thinking, you’ll never grow any bigger. Maybe it’s time to get out of the mud puddle and into a lake, or out of the lake and into the ocean. It’s time to let God grow you, expand you, and release your potential!

A dream will drive you to grow. It will encourage you. There’s something about a dream that brings encouragement and joy to people’s lives. People who are depressed or discouraged typically don’t have a dream. When you have a dream, it makes you want to get up in the morning. Dreams cause you to put your clothes on and go to work because you’ve got a passion driving your life.

A dream will motivate you. It’s like nuclear energy in your soul. When you get a dream, your energy will rise proportionately to your dream. Scientists studied people who retired early. It only took three years for these people with nothing to do to decline in their health. This happened because they had nothing to excite, motivate, or challenge them.

In Germany, another study was done on rats. The first group of rats didn’t have to do anything to earn their food. They just ate it. The second group of rats were put in a maze. The maze was sporadically changed each day, so the rats had to work hard to find food. Later, they compared the two groups, and the rats that had to go through the maze to get to their food lived six months longer. In rat years, that’s a long time! The rats that were given a goal lived way longer.

You won’t thrive in life without a goal. Dreams will look different in every season. Your life’s mission isn’t over when your kids move out, when you retire, or when you become wealthy enough to stop working. God wants to give you a dream that drives you. It doesn’t matter how old you are. You need a dream. Dreams give us a reason to keep on living. God created you to dream, so dream big.
