How High You Go

Today’s Scripture

1 Samuel 26:23, NLT

“Father, thank You that You are refining my character and using the pressure of challenges to make me stronger and grow me up. Thank You that every test of my faith is preparing me to overcome and persevere and be increased. I believe that I am coming out better. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Today’s Word

David had worked faithfully for King Saul, but Saul became jealous of David and tried to kill him. David had to flee for his life and live on the run in the desert, hiding in caves. Saul was making his life miserable. At one point, David could have easily killed Saul and put an end to all this trouble, but he knew it was wrong. Even though Saul was doing wrong, David had so much integrity, such great character, that he wouldn’t harm Saul. Not long after that, Saul was killed in battle, and David took the throne. I wonder if this would have happened if David had not passed this test and so many other tests all along the way to the throne.

What you do in private will determine how high you go in public. You don’t get stronger by taking the easy way out. Your competence will not be the limit of how high you go; your character will determine how high you go. Talent may take you somewhere, but character is what will keep you there.

“The LORD gives his own reward for doing good and for being loyal, and I refused to kill you even when the LORD placed you in my power, for you are the LORD’s anointed one.”
