Celebrate Others

FEB 18, 2024

Today’s Scripture

1 Samuel 18:8, NLT

This made Saul very angry. “What’s this?” he said. “They credit David with ten thousands and me with only thousands. Next they’ll be making him their king!”

Today’s Word

There was a time when King Saul loved David and treated him like a son. But when David was celebrated by the people, Saul was so insecure that David’s success made him feel inferior. You’d think King Saul would be thrilled to have someone as skilled and faithful as David on his team. But Saul allowed a spirit of pride and jealousy to cause him to try to kill David, and it cost Saul the kingdom.

One of life’s tests requires learning to celebrate the successes of others. You may be tempted to be jealous or critical when someone rises higher, passing you up, whether it’s in the office, on a team, or in an organization. The real test as to whether God continues to promote you is whether you celebrate what He is doing in their life or feel you are in competition with them. Just run your own race and be secure in who God made you to be. Be the best you can be and don’t compare. When you celebrate others, God will celebrate you.

Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You have given me gifts and talents to fulfill my destiny, and they are different from what others have been given. Thank You for the blessing of being different and the privilege of making the most of what You’ve given me. I will be content. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
