Today’s Scripture
“Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.”
Matthew 16:18, NLT
Today’s Word
When Jesus spoke today’s Scripture to Simon, he was anything but a rock. He was impulsive, unreliable, inconsistent, and hot-tempered. Jesus was telling him who the true Simon was: Simon Peter. He was calling out the true Simon, the faithful Simon, Simon the Rock. It didn’t happen overnight, but God kept working on Peter’s weaknesses, chiseling away the hot temper, transforming the inconsistency. When the church was starting in the book of Acts, they needed someone to give the inaugural address on the day of Pentecost. Who was the obvious leader to step forward? Peter. But now it wasn’t the impulsive Peter, the inconsistent Peter, the deny-Jesus Peter. This was the Rock. It was the true Peter, the faithful Peter, the strong Peter, the anointed Peter, the powerful Peter. Here’s what I’m saying: Don’t get discouraged because of who you are right now. God is still molding and shaping you. He’s still removing things that are limiting your destiny. You haven’t seen your best days. The rock in you is still going to come out. The successful you, the holy you, the favored you.
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that by the power of Your Spirit You are transforming me into the person You created me to be. Thank You that every test of my faith is shaping me into the true me, the faithful me, the holy me. I believe that the rock in me is still going to come out. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”Archive
