Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you
In honor of Mother’s Day, Pastor Matt Hagee shared the privilege it is to call Ms. Diana Hagee his Mom. Like many women, she fills a multitude of roles, but the one role that supersedes all the others is that of being a mother.
Pastor Matt verifies that his mother has only one speed: overdrive! He is the first to confess that, if you have a mom who loves you in overdrive, you are blessed indeed. If you need help, she is knocking on the door. If you need a friend, she is there to hold your hand and dry your tears. If you need food, buy a larger refrigerator, because you are going to get food!
For over forty years, she has ministered alongside Pastor John Hagee. The greatest gift that she has given to the church – and to many outside the church – has been to teach them how to love one another. In John 15:12, Jesus said to His disciples, “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” Diana has provided a walking, talking tutorial on loving one another. Her life has been a humble demonstration of how to love each other well.
She has loved her husband, her family, and the members of Cornerstone Church. As importantly, she has taught them to do the same for one another. When church members visit one another in the hospital, when they reach out to someone who is ill, when they bring over a casserole in a covered dish, it is not because one of the pastors instructed them to do so over the pulpit. They do so, because Diana has been an example of loving and taking care of your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Jesus issued a new commandment to us; in the same way that He loved us, we should love one another. When a watching world sees the love that we demonstrate towards one another, how we tenderly care for and stand up for one another, they will know that we are His disciples (John 13:34-35).
For the virtuous woman, Proverbs 31:28 says that “her children rise up and call her blessed.” Pastor Matt Hagee is grateful for his mom and the legacy of love that she continues to build.
Blessing:
Heavenly Father, thank You for natural – and spiritual – mothers who teach us to walk with You in humility and grace. May I be all about building a legacy of love that points others to You. In Jesus’ name…amen.
