Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table
When a husband fears the Lord and walks in His ways, his choice sets up his household for success. His relationship with God strengthens His relationship with his wife and positively impacts his children.
Our verse for today creates a picture of the health and happiness that exists in such a home, the richness that flows out of a relationship with our Creator and Sustainer. At the very heart of the home, the verse depicts the wife as a fruitful vine.
Genesis 2:24 tells us that a man leaves his parents to cleave or cling to his wife, and they become like one person. When a wife is secure in the love of a Godly husband, she will freely wrap her life around him like a fruitful vine. She can cling to him as a leader because she trusts him, as a lover because she adores him, and as a confidante because she has a friend in him. Their lives are intertwined, joined so closely that they are inseparable.
Vines climb. When a wife is secure in the marriage relationship, she has liberty to climb to the destiny that God created for her. She has the confidence to reach for the Son until the dreams that God has planted in her heart become a reality.
Fruitful vines produce – they grow clusters of grapes on every branch. All that a wife puts her hand to will flourish. She will find satisfaction and contentment in her relationship with God, her husband, and her endeavors. Her productivity will bless her own family as well as her neighbors and her community (Proverbs 31).
Around their dinner table, their children will be like olive plants, a spring of life in their home. They will watch them bud and bloom with fresh promise for the future.
Blessing:
Heavenly Father, thank You for this beautiful picture of a life lived in You. May my walk with You be healthy and full of life. I ask that you pour out your blessings in my relationship with my spouse. May we both cling to You and to one another. Together, may we produce much fruit for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name…amen.
