The Power of Worship

Joyce Meyer – Jul 20, 2024

Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the Lord.

 2 Chronicles 20:18 (NIV)

One of my favorite Old Testament stories is the story of Jehoshaphat, a king who led God’s people to a mighty victory because he understood two key principles. First, he understood that the battle was not his, but God’s. Therefore, he knew that God would fight for him (2 Chronicles 20:15). Second, he understood the power of worship.

As Jehoshaphat and his people prepared for battle, the Spirit of God spoke to them, saying, You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you (2 Chronicles 20:17 NIV). We might think, in response to these words, that the people grabbed their weapons and ran to their positions on the battlefield. But they didn’t. Jehoshaphat and all the people fell before the Lord and worshiped Him. In addition, the Levites began to praise with a very loud voice (2 Chronicles 20:19 ESV). And of course, they won the battle, just as the Spirit of God had told them they would.

Whatever battle you are facing today, take your position in praise and worship. Praising and worshiping God will strengthen you and defeat the enemy. There is real power— spiritual power—in worship.

Prayer of the Day: Father, I choose today to face my battles with praise and worship. Thank You for fighting for me, for being with me, and for giving me victory. In Jesus’ name, amen
