Just Pray

Adapted from Strength for Each Day

One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.

 Acts 3:1 (NIV)

We see in today’s scripture that in the days of the early church, three o’clock in the afternoon was a designated time of prayer. I wonder, does your schedule include a time of prayer? Do you have a certain portion of each day reserved to stop what you are doing and pray? It doesn’t have to be at three o’clock in the afternoon. It doesn’t even have to be at the same time each day, so don’t feel guilty if your schedule won’t allow that. God delights in the fact that you want to pray and seek Him, and while having regular prayer times is very important, the schedule does not need to become a rule that you struggle to follow.

Prayer is simply talking to God, and praying every day will benefit you greatly. Ephesians 6:18 says we are to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” I say, “Pray your way through the day,” which means that I like to live a lifestyle of prayer—offering prayers in all kinds of situations and praising God in my heart wherever I am, in addition to having dedicated set- apart times of prayer and fellowship with God each day.

The most important thing about prayer is that we do it often and that we grow in it, becoming more and more confident that God hears and answers us.

Prayer of the Day: Father, strengthen me in my prayer life as I seek You each day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
