How to Respond to Persecution

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

MATTHEW 5:10

Ponder This

Christians are different. Christians should stand out like a diamond in a coal mine—like a gardenia in a garbage can. We’re alive in the spirit. The world is dead in sin. We live by faith; they walk by sight. Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13), and “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). Salt irritates when poured into a wound, and light reveals. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is an irritant to the wounds of this world and the Gospel of Jesus Christ reveals the darkness of this world.

So, what do you do when you face persecution and opposition? “Bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:44-45). You’re the King’s kids! You act and respond like your Father in Heaven. Don’t get even. Return good for evil.
