PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:

The MESSAGE:

I once saw a quip that read: “To get closer to God, love others.” I found it thought-provoking and true. Brotherly love is stressed in the Bible. When you demonstrate genuine love to your fellow human beings, you prove that you love God. The Bible asks, “… If you do not love your brother who you have seen, how can you love God whom you have not seen?” (1 John 4:20).

In Psalm 15, our Fire Scripture for today, David asked God for the necessary qualification to abide in His tabernacle or, as New Testament believers, to enjoy His indwelling, abiding and empowering presence. God’s reply stresses that to “abide” in His presence and enjoy His purpose first requires a will to exhibit a strong relationship with others. In other words, as a believer, if you want to have a strong and fruitful relationship with God, you must ensure that you conduct your life very well and in right relationship with others. Beloved, how good is your interpersonal relationship? How well do you relate with others in your home, neighbourhood, workplace, and so on? You can’t successfully get close to God if you don’t love others and relate well with them.

In case you are wondering what God means by these instructions and need further clarification to enable you act in obedience henceforth, here are God’s words to David and to all of us in Psalm 15: Speak kindly to your neighbour; do not gossip or say anything to destroy another person’s reputation; do nothing to hurt another person in any way. Do not reproach your neighbour or cause him to be discredited or disregarded.

In case you want to conclude that these are God’s words in Psalm 15, an Old Testament chapter, I would like you to note that in the New Testament, Romans 13:9, God also gave the commandment, “Love your neighbour as yourself.” Do you want your relationship with the heavenly Father to be cordial and deep? Do you want to abide in His presence and be His favourite? Love your neighbour deeply and treat him or her as you love to be treated!
