TOPIC: Humility Pays! (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 16 November 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ezekiel 3-4; Hebrews 11:20-40

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Philippians 2:5-8

MEMORY VERSE: “And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.” – Mark 10:44

The MESSAGE:

True greatness is achieved in proportion to selfless service, humbly rendered. It is not the number of one’s servants that count but the number whom one serves. Wisdom of creation says: but whosoever will be great among you shall be your servant and whosoever shall be chief among you shall serve all.

Serve more for the Lord and be great. Don’t be a Lord over many people, serve them for Him. Do not live for yourself but live for many even from your closet in intercession, giving, and even for the many He gave His life for. Your many might not be in public domain but heaven knows and ranks your many. Seek to serve more people. Even Jesus gave His life and served many for the Father. Paul finally admonished that we should have the mind of Christ. To be obedient to the command of Christ, we ought to have the attitude of humility and of being a servant. It is quite difficult to be a humble servant. Being humble is not the façade humility that most Christians showcase when they are being praised, they put up smiles to show embarrassment while inside, they feel happy that their good deeds have finally been acknowledged. For humility to be realistic, we have to take the form of a servant, but most of us would rather be served than serve others.

Jesus was humility personified (Philippians 2:5-8). He humbled Himself and became obedient to death. Our attitudes should be like that of Jesus Christ. Jesus was crucified on the cross; His death was not for Himself but those He came to serve (sinners). He declared that anyone who would follow Him, must first deny himself, take up his cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). He became a servant to His creation. He is the logos, the Word. In Genesis, He was the Word that created all things. John 1:1-3 affirms that all that exist were made by Him out of love and humility. He left the heavens, came in flesh and willingly allowed Himself to be humiliated and later hung on a cross. Jesus taught His disciples humility by telling them that whoever wants to be the greatest in the kingdom must humble himself. When He was about to eat the Passover meal with His disciples before His betrayal, He taught them what having the mind of Christ is (humility) by washing their feet (John 13:12-15). It is only with the mind of Christ that we can love our enemies, bless them that curse us, do good to them who despise us and pray for those who persecute us, esteem others more highly than ourselves, restore a backsliding/lost soul.

Humility is the opposite of pride. As Christians, we are called to live humbly. But what does humble living really mean? Is humility thinking poorly about yourself? Or is it more of focussing on Jesus and what He is doing for you? Humility is an attitude. Start today to show it. Make it your foremost virtue and watchword!
