TOPIC: God Will Trouble Your Troublers (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 22 December 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Micah 6-7; Revelation 9

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 5:1-7

MEMORY VERSE: “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you.” – 2 Thessalonians 1:6

The MESSAGE:

God is still in the business of troubling those who trouble His children. He remains the believer’s victorious banner and defender forever. Elijah the Tishbite was a prophet of fire, power and great authority. At his command, he shut the heavens over Israel and there was no rain and dew for three and a half years. King Ahab looked for him everywhere from one nation to the other so he could open the heavens again, but Elijah could not be found. Three and a half years later, when God instructed Elijah to show himself to Ahab, he did. When Ahab saw Elijah, he asked, “Art thou he that troubleth Israel? And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.” Truly, God troubled Ahab and Jezebel. They both died in a miserable way. I pray that the God of Elijah will trouble those who are troubling your Israel and those who hate your existence, peace and joy, in Jesus’ name.

The second classic example of God troubling the enemies of His children is the account of the Philistines in 1 Samuel 5:1-7. The Israelites had sinned against the Lord. Consequently, the Philistines defeated them in a battle and took the ark of God from Ebenezer to Ashdod and into the house of their god called Dagon. They set the ark by Dagon. That was the beginning of sore trouble for the Philistines.

Dagon was the primary god of the Philistine people, with the torso, arms and head of a man and the lower body of a fish. He was worshipped as the father of Baal. On the other hand, the ark of covenant was not just a physical thing. It was a chest which contained the tablets of the Law of God, the basis of Israel’s covenant relationship with God. The elders want the ark as a reminder of God’s presence among them and to inspire courage in battle. The cherubim were two figures moulded from pure gold, situated on each end of the ark. What followed was the war of gods. When the people of Ashdod woke up the following morning, Dagon, their god, had fallen prostrate on the ground as though worshipping before the ark. It was also dismembered. That showed the invincibility and sovereignty of Jehovah, the God of Israel. Besides, the hand of God was heavy upon the people of Ashdod and He destroyed them and smote them with emerods. The people of Ashdod became afraid and cried that the ark of the God of Israel no longer abide with them because his hand was sore upon the people and upon Dagon their god (1 Samuel 5:7). After this, the lords of the Philistines sent the ark of the God of Israel to Gath. Again the God of Israel troubled Gath and smote all the people with emerods in their secret parts and there was a great destruction in the land of Gath. After this, they sent the ark of God to Ekron. Again the hand of the Lord was heavy against Ekron and there was deadly destruction in the land. The men who did not die were also smitten by emerods. For seven months, God troubled the Philistines with sore trouble. They knew no peace and died in great number until they decided to return the ark of the covenant of the God of Israel.

The ark of covenant carried the presence of Jehovah. It was also consecrated. In the same vein, as a New Testament believer, you carry the presence, power and glory of the Most High God. Therefore, the God you serve will trouble whosoever troubles you, in Jesus’ name.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
