TOPIC: Moderation (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 23 August 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 113-115; 1 Corinthians 6

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 7:1-10

MEMORY VERSE: “Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.” – Philippians 4:5

The MESSAGE:

Moderation is the control of one’s behaviour, so that the actions, feelings and habit can be kept within a reasonable limit of caution and control. It is not doing things in excess or to extremes, in either eating or dressing.

Lack of moderation makes a man eat when he is not hungry. When a man cannot do without eating junks or snacks a day, such a man lacks moderation. Some people eat a bowl of food and after this, step out to junks such as popcorn and groundnut, buns and a big bottle of carbonated drink.

When you cannot set out a day or 2 days in a week to fast, an anti-moderation spirit is already at work in your life. The Bible says, let your moderation be made known unto men. The fact that the Bible draws our attention to this issue makes it a very serious issue.

There was a joke about a college Mathematics teacher who asked one of his student to solve a mathematical problem: “Ade had N100, be bought N30 chocolate, N40 ice cream and N20 popcorn. What is left with him?” The student answered “Diabetes!”. This is a funny joke, but the morale behind the joke is that, for someone to spend huge chunks of his money on junk and sugary food, the only thing he can be left with is diabetes or worse!

Some people cannot do without taking alcohol or carbonated drinks in a day.

Moderation is also required in the way we dress, and in our carriage and comportment because the way we dress is the way we will be addressed. You can know someone who is engaged in an occupation, tribe, or religion by their attire or looks. Therefore, we must be very careful of the way we appear in the public. Some parents buy cloth every week while their children are driven out of the school because they cannot pay the school fees.

In the above scripture, the woman was described as one with the attire of an harlot. This tells us that there is attire for each profession, occupation or occasion; an harlot can thus be identified or known by her attire. This is why a believer, either male or female, must be careful of his or her dressing.

An incidence happened in a particular street of Lagos and police started patrolling and picking boys on the street. While this was going on, two brothers were going home from work. The police looked at one and concluded that he is a pastor, and detained the other one because they believed he must be part of the thieves they are looking for as a result of his looks and because of the way he sags his trouser, with a big chain on his neck.

Moderation must reveal itself in everything you do; everything about you must show that you are a Christian. Ask yourself if Christ were on earth now, will He dress like you are dressing now? Does your appearance represent Christ well? You must be perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48).

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
THE WAY YOU ARE DRESSED, WILL DETERMINE HOW YOU WILL BE ADDRESSED.

May your character bring you before kings, and not before fools.
