TOPIC: Your Mouth And Your Destiny (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 23 December 2019)
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Nahum; Revelation 14
FIRE SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 1:13-16
MEMORY VERSE: “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” – Proverbs 15:4
The MESSAGE:
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life. God expects good words to proceed from your mouth. You will account for every idle word that you speak. Little wonder David prayed, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight o Lord, my God and my Redeemer.” In the Book of James, the Bible also affirms that the man whose religion is pure is the one who does not offend by his speech. I pray that your mouth will not put you in trouble or bondage and that God will save you from self imposed curses, in Jesus’ name.

Michal, the daughter of king Saul and David’s wife was the only woman who died barren in the Bible. What was her offence? She spoke against her husband, king David, the anointed of the Lord. Beloved, ensure you do not say wrong things against men and women of God. The consequence of such an act is always disastrous.
In our Fire Scripture for today (2 Samuel 1:13-16), the son of the Amalekite did himself a lot of ill by narrating to David a false account of what happened in the battlefield. The truth is that it was Saul who fell on the sword to kill himself. It was not the young Amalekite that killed him. However the Amalekite used his own mouth to put himself in serious trouble. It was a taboo for a heathen to kill an Israelite, worse still to kill an anointed of the Lord. Therefore, after David had lamented the death of Saul and his sons, he turned to the Amalekite and said, “How was thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?” David then ordered one of his soldiers to kill the Amalekite and added, “Thy blood be upon thy head for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD’s anointed.”
Another area every Christian should be careful is the use of the mouth in making vows. The Bible says that it is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfil it. Jephthah lost his only daughter through a careless vow he made. He had told God that if He would go with him to war against his enemies and give him victory, the first thing that meets him when he returns triumphant would he offer to God as sacrifice and in appreciation to His faithfulness and help. Unfortunately, it was his only daughter who first came to him to welcome him back home. His joy turned to sorrow when he remembered the vow he had made. He had to offer his daughter as sacrifice to redeem his vow. I pray once again that your mouth will not put you in trouble, in Jesus’ name. Always remember that the power of life and death is in the tongue. Be wise!
