BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 25-27; John 9:1-23
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Romans 8:23-25
MEMORY VERSE: “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” – Romans 15:13
The MESSAGE:
The very essence of our being believers is the hope of eternity i.e. making heaven. But at times we ask ourselves what’s the essence of believing in a God we do not see, is He real? As children of God, our home is not really here on earth but heaven. If you are a true child of God, at times you will have this strange feeling of this world. As the hope of Christianity is spending eternity with God in heaven. Hope literally means eager expectation. As a child of God, that believes that Jesus came, died and resurrected that we might be saved, you have the expectation of being in heaven.
The Holy Spirit is the one who has placed an eternal perspective in our hearts, the desire to abandon our bodies get a new one and live forever in heaven with God. The Holy Spirit which in-dwells us makes for the groaning within us for the ultimate redemption of our bodies. The Holy Spirit makes us capable of hoping.
Hope is our anchor in God. It helps us to stand fast through the storms of life. It is the object you direct your focus and energies on. To you as a Christian, hope is the knowledge that we are being changed for the better as we trust God’s promise (Romans 8:28). It is also the conviction that no matter the circumstances, God’s plan for our lives are good and not for destruction to give us a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11b).
Our hope in the Spirit is rooted in a trustworthy, unchangeable God and in it are eternal promises. God wants us to be encouraged by His character and hope in Him (Hebrews 6:16-18) as this is a sure and steadfast anchor.
At times, when you have Jesus as your Saviour, you can still lose hope. When your hope is delayed, you can be overcome by deep sense of despair. The Bible says that hope deferred makes the heart sick. Jesus offers this hope freely to all who are willing to come to Him and abide in Him (John 11:25-26). Therefore, you should have a relationship with God, and be His servant totally obedient to His word. This will make Him to send us and anoint us, and also put His Spirit in our hearts as a security.
You should ask yourself the following questions –is my hope overrun by the pursuit of joy in a passing world? How often do I think of the glory of eternity that is yet to come? Do I relate it to my present day sufferings? But Paul tells us in the conclusion of this letter to the Romans, “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” (Romans 15:13).
