TOPIC: Dealing With Parental Curses (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 28 September 2019)

MEMORY VERSE: “The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.” – Psalms 34:7

The MESSAGE:

In Genesis 49:1-7 (our Fire Scripture for today), the Patriarch; Jacob, in his ripe old age, summoned all the twelve sons to himself to hear and know the prophetic picture of their future individually. The Patriarch said, “That I may tell you what would befall you in the future.” It was a day of reckoning and reward. On that day, heaven conferred blessings and honour on some destinies through the words of Jacob while it heaped curses on some destinies through the same. The lessons here are that whatever we do, the choices we make every day amount to sowing seeds, we will have harvests one day based on what we sow. The second lesson is that next to God’s blessings and curses, parental blessings and curses are so powerful that they can make or mar the lives and destinies of children. That is why it is important to obey the biblical injunction to obey our parents.

Among the children of Israel that gathered that day, Reuben, Simeon and Levi were not fortunate to receive commendation and blessing. They had made mistakes that made their father to deprive them of blessings and to issue curses on them. Of particular interest here is the case of Levi. Simeon and Levi had joined forces together and killed a man in their anger. The cruelty they displayed in shedding blood and the enormity of their sin in the sight of God made their father to disown them and distance himself from their sin. They must have perpetrated the evil and buried the man secretly, but God showed it to the Patriarch who said, “Levi will be scattered.” It means he will not amount to anything good and he will not be settled and established. It was a terrible pronouncement that portended a bleak and unpleasant future for Levi. Is there any hope for anyone labouring under parental curse today? Can such a person be delivered? The answer is in the affirmative. Through divine intervention and mercy, Levi was delivered. He did not live with the curse forever.

In Numbers 3:5-12, God transformed Levi from the cursed to the super blessed. Why? Exodus 32:21-26 provides the answer. Moses had gone to the top of the mountain to be alone with God. He put Aaron in charge of the congregation. When Moses returned, he found the congregation worshiping an idol and some were even naked. Moses was furious at the backsliding or apostacy Aaron allowed to happen. Exodus 32:26 says, “Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD’s side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.” Levi said, “I am on the Lord’s side.” That day, God destroyed the curse Levi’s father placed on him.

This is confirmed in Numbers 3:5-8, “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him. And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the tabernacle.”

God is still in the business of destroying yokes and bondage as well as breaking curses and evil covenants. Are you a victim of parental, ancestral or generational curses? The way out is to be on the Lord’s side. Give your life to Jesus Christ. He will redeem you from the curse of the law and turn every curse against you to blessing.

5. Lord, let Your wasters fight my devourers, in the name of Jesus.

6. Lord, reverse every curse in my life and turn it to blessing, in the name of Jesus.

7. Blood of Jesus, break the power of curses in my life, in the name of Jesus.
