TOPIC: Overcoming Struggle in Prayer (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 4 June 2019)
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 21-22; John 14
FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 14:13-17
MEMORY VERSE: “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” – Luke 18:1
The MESSAGE:
When we begin to struggle in the place of prayer, two things are involved. The first is sin and the second is absence of the word of God.
Sin is a sinker, it is a devourer and it kills. The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23), and “The soul that sinneth shall die” (Ezekiel 18:20). Sin is a destroyer. Adam had a beautiful experience in the Garden of Eden until sin invaded his fellowship with God. David enjoyed victory everywhere and remained the man after God’s heart until he committed adultery and murder (2 Samuel 11:17). Solomon remained the wisest king in biblical history until he was led astray by strange women and idol worship (1 Kings 11:5). Samson remained the strongest man in Israel until he encountered Delilah (Judges 16:4). These great generals were plucked down, devastated and grounded by sin, so that their relationship with God was hindered. Therefore, they staggered and struggled in the place of prayer because, the devil is an accuser of the brethren. Beloved, do you know that people living in sin in our churches today live in extreme criticism, gossiping and strife because their heaven has been made brass by their own doings? These people often make themselves judges in the house of God; they are political in all their decisions and not spiritual. They work very hard to frustrate the move of God, and they become haters of righteousness, truth and holiness in the house of God. People with such antecedents will definitely struggle in the place of prayer.
The second thing that makes us struggle in prayer is the absence of the word of God. The Psalmist declares in Psalm 119:105 that, “The word of God is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” This means that without the word of God in someone’s life, there is absolute darkness and lots of struggle in the place of prayer. This is because when we dwell in darkness, we are closed up in obscurity and ignorance of our rights as children of God. The devil therefore takes advantage of us and afflicts us sore. Remember that, God honours His word more than His name. Our Lord Jesus Christ defeated the devil with the word of God -“It is written…” (Matthew 4:4). Without the word of God in our lives, we will not only struggle in the place of prayer, we will also live in spiritual famine as recorded in (Amos 8:11-13) which states, “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.”
A wandering soul will only pray amiss and will struggle in the place of prayer because of the famine of the word of God. Our generation is plagued with the famine of the word of God, truth, righteousness and holiness. Therefore, prayer has become a scarce commodity to many believers who stagger and struggle in an attempt to pray because the prayer of a sinner is an abomination to the Lord.
