TOPIC: Leadership Lessons From Bible Characters (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 1 August 2021)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 22-23; 2 Chronicles 34-35

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 6:5-8

5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

MEMORY VERSE: “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:” – Exodus 23:2

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority support it or share in it.

PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a worship song as led by the Holy Spirit

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
HENCEFORTH, YOU SHALL BE THE HEAD AND NOT THE TAIL, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

The MESSAGE:

Leadership is the act of influencing and serving others out of Christ’s interests in their lives so they accomplish God’s purposes for and through them. A biblical leader is a person of character and competence who influences a community of people to achieve a God-honouring calling by means of the power of Christ. There are many leadership lessons we can learn from Bible characters that were used by God.

The first leadership lesson for us to learn is that leaders do what is right even if they are alone. The life of Noah gives credence to this truth. In Genesis 6, the Bible reveals that God was unhappy about the wickedness that had pervaded human lives and societies. He decided to wipe out the human race and start afresh. However, He found Noah to be the only one who had not been corrupted. So, he made Noah His purpose or project partner and told him to build an ark. In Genesis 7:1, God said to Noah, after he had built the ark to His specification, “… Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.” This proves that, though literally the whole world was doing what was wrong, that did not stop Noah from doing what was right! You should dare to be different. Don’t follow the multitude to do evil (Exodus 23:2).

An incident recorded in Exodus 32 will shed more light on this truth. Moses had gone to commune with God and he left Aaron in charge of the children of Israel. Godly leadership is not about being popular or pleasing the people, it is about obedience to God. Aaron failed this leadership test. Due to this request and the pressure the people mounted on him, Aaron instructed them to break the golden earrings of their wives, daughters and sons and bring to him. He then made a golden calf, built an altar and the people began to worship the idol, thereby corrupting themselves. Moses had to intercede so that God would not wipe the Israelites out.

Beloved, majority is not always right. In order to win, you need to trust God more than the crowd!
