TOPIC: Heavenly Patriotism (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 10 July 2021)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 74-79

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Philippians 3:17-21

17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

MEMORY VERSE: “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.” – Philippians 3:20-21

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Your love for God’s Kingdom will command God’s favour in your direction.

PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a worship song as led by the Holy Spirit

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
I PROPHESY THAT THE LORD WILL ESTABLISH YOU AS AN AMBASSADOR FOR CHRIST HERE AND IN HEAVEN, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

The MESSAGE:

The expression “heavenly patriotism” basically means “love of heavenly country and willingness to sacrifice for it. In accordance with today’s devotional fire scripture, since we are ultimately citizens of heaven, then our lives should reflect a higher loyalty. We should actually live as obedient citizens of heaven, no matter how mere citizens of the earth may live their lives all around us.

By faith, Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith, he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise, for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

We are thus ultimately citizens of a heavenly country and a heavenly city, and we must live our lives here on earth as strangers and pilgrims who are just passing through. This means living lives that demonstrate our allegiance to our heavenly King. It means loving our heavenly country and being willing to sacrifice for it, even when doing so puts us at odds with those who are merely citizens of this earth. If we keep our focus where it should be and realise that we look forward to a far better place, then we will also be enabled to persevere in faith just as our forefathers were. We must not forget that we are ultimately strangers and pilgrims on the earth, but that this does not mean that we are not actually also citizens of an earthly country to which we also owe allegiance and obedience. As a matter of fact, as sojourners and pilgrims on this earth we are to be good citizens who pray for and submit to those in authority for the sake of the Gospel and the glory of God. And this makes us even better citizens of our earthly country. Indeed, it means that we should be willing to show the love of Christ to and for our country, even to the point of sacrifice for the good of our country.

We are ambassadors for Christ here but for a short time, and then we will be in heaven, our true and eternal home with Jesus.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Lord, guide me as a heavenly patriot, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Lord, keep me safe till I get to the eternal home, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Lord, lead me in my journey through life, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

  1. O Lord, hold me with Your powerful hand, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Lord, be my strength and shield, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Lord, bid my anxious fears to subside, in the name of Jesus.
  4. Lord, let me walk with You all along my pilgrim journey, in the name of Jesus.
