TOPIC: Humility Brings Honour (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 12 August 2024)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 20, Proverbs 21, Revelation 1, Revelation 2.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Esther 6:1-14 (KJV)

1 On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.

2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.

3 And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.

4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

5 And the king’s servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.

6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?

7 And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,

8 Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:

9 And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.

10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.

11 Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.

12 And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.

13 And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.

14 And while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.

MFM Devotional For Today 2024 MESSAGE:

Mordecai was humble. This was seen in Esther 6:12. The king wanted to reward Mordecai for his good deed but he needed suggestions on what to reward him with. He asked Haman what should be done to the one whom the king delights to honour. The pride and haughtiness in the evil heart of Haman deceived him into believing that there is none other to be rewarded than himself and so he suggested uncommon rewards even up to the royal apparel worn by the king. Oh such a pride and audacity! “The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?” (Obadiah 1:3). He was asked to do all he had suggested for Mordecai. One would have thought that Mordecai, after he had enjoyed such a great honour especially having his enemy drive him round the town and hailing him, that he would start raising his shoulder, dancing round the town and talking as if he had arrived. One would have expected him to start abusing and taunting Haman, but not Mordecai. He went back quietly to his duty post to carry on his duty while he awaited God to perfect what He had started. He knew that God had better things in store; so, he refused to be blinded by a small achievement.

Beloved, we need to pray to God to shatter our pride. So many people cannot handle some of the good things God has in store for them, because once God starts to promote them, pride will immediately be visible and off they go away from the God that had blessed them. Some persons would have resigned their jobs immediately and stopped relating with certain class of people simply because the king asked Haman to take them round the town in the king’s royal apparel just for one day; they can’t handle success.

Beloved, no matter the season of life you find yourself, be humble always. May the things God had already done for us not hinder us from getting what he has in store for us, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Sing this song ‘Melt my heart, melt my spirit, melt all the pride that assembles in my heart; melt my heart, melt my spirit, make me like Jesus, who was humble unto death.
  2. I shall not fall for others to rise, in the name of Jesus.
  3. I obtain the grace to humble myself, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

  1. My Haman shall proclaim my victory, in the name of Jesus.
  2. My enemies shall plan my celebration, in the name of Jesus.
  3. O God, arise and give me a loud and noisy testimony, in the name of Jesus.
  4. O God, arise and pamper me, in the name of Jesus.
