TOPIC: Lessons From The Life Of Jochebed (III) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 13 May 2024)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 33, 2 Chronicles 34, 2 Chronicles 35, Luke 13, Luke 14.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Exodus 2:1-9 (KJV)

1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.

4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.

9 And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the women took the child, and nursed it.

MFM Devotional For Today 2023 MESSAGE:

Jochebed took steps of faith and played her part. Faith without works is dead. Jochebed didn’t just have faith that God will come and save the baby. She swung into action. First, she hid the child for three months. It’s a great deal of work to hide a newborn for three months. She paid the fare and gave it everything it required. How much are you willing to do to protect your God-given dreams? Note that for any dream to become a reality, a great deal of work is required. God will not come and do certain things for you. Play your part while God plays His part.

Next, when she could no longer hide the baby, she got creative. “…she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.” She also asked her daughter Miriam to stay around to see what would become of the child. These steps show her strong faith in Yahweh. She believed that God is faithful and faithful to the end. She knew that God doesn’t go far with people only to leave half way. Hers was a living faith. She saw, she acted and she got what she wanted.

Have you dreamt of becoming great and you just sit down hoping that one day God will bring your dreams to pass but you are not taking steps whatsoever? That dream will only remain a dream until you act on it. You have a dream of becoming a professor, go study more. You want to become the best singer out there, how diligent are you to your rehearsals? You want to become the best preacher and healing evangelist in town, what attention have you paid to capacity building both physically and spiritually? Jesus is not a magician, you must work to make your calling and election sure. Everybody loves the result that Paul had in ministry but are you willing to labour like Paul? He said in 1 Corinthians 15:10, “……but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” How much are you willing to commit to your God-given dreams?
