1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing,

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
The envious person grows lean with the fatness of their neighbour.

PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a worship song as led by the Holy Spirit

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
THE DECREE OF ENVIOUS ENEMIES OVER MY LIFE SHALL NOT COME TO PASS, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

The MESSAGE:
Envy and jealousy are described as evil twins. They are very common among women and have done a great havoc in the home. In the words of the Psalmist in today’s Fire Scripture, it is a good thing for brothers to dwell together in unity. God delights in good and healthy relationship in every area of the human society, be it within the family or at the work place. We are called to relate in a godly and healthy manner. However, this does not ignore the individual differences. Rather, as Christians, we should harness these differences to present a bigger picture of Christ in us.

Unfortunately, many Christian families are found wanting in the area of sibling rivalry. This is one evil that should not occur in a family. If not checked in earnest, it could degenerate into serious damage which may tear down the very fabric of the family. The Bible is complete. It has records of cases of sibling rivalry, starting from Esau and Jacob. Jacob aided by his mother, collected his brother’s portion of blessing (Genesis 27). Sad but true is the story of Joseph and his brothers who conspired to kill him, simply because their father, Jacob loved and preferred him to the others. To worsen matters, his dreams made them to detest him and he was eventually sold into slavery.

Parents need to be very careful not to show favouritism among their children. Imagine what happened to Esau and Jacob. It was an overflow of parental preference. Isaac loved Esau. Rebecca loved Jacob. Mothers, learn from Rebecca! She aided Jacob and earned sorrow at the end. Why should there be the splitting factor between your children? God is not happy at this. Why don’t you sit back prayerfully and patiently observe the uniqueness of each child as God has endowed them with. Jochebed was discrete with Moses, knowing that there is something unique about this child. After all she has had two other children, (male and female) before him, each person carrying his peculiar gifts, talents and abilities. Such is a wise parent! God detests anyone that sows discord among brethren. Except for divine intervention, such children may end up as enemies forever. Teach your children to appreciate individual giftedness, and to love each other without reservation.

Thank God for Joseph who forgave his brethren, not of him, but God who has been with him and made him to see his life’s journey as a divine agenda to preserve the entire future nation of Israel.

Siblings, flee every negative comparison, envy and jealousy. They are destroyers, enemies of unity and the Spirit of God. Rather follow peace with one another and you shall see God.
