TOPIC: Jesus Our Captain (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 19 June 2021)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 12-14

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 16:24-27

24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

MEMORY VERSE: “For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.” – Hebrews 2:10

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
A ship captained by Jesus can never sink.

PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a worship song as led by the Holy Spirit

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
YOUR LIFE SHALL NOT BE A FAILED PROJECT, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

The MESSAGE:

A captain is someone in charge of a ship or an aircraft. He is the leader of a team in sports or other human activities. He is the head of others. As Christians, Jesus Christ is our captain who, through His shed blood on the cross of Calvary, made our redemption possible. He is the captain of our salvation. He has brought us as children unto the glory of the Father’s kingdom. Ephesians 1:22 says, “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.” Jesus is the head and authority over the church. If Jesus is your captain, He demands your total submission. You must absolutely surrender every area of your life to Him.

For a deeper understanding, let us consider Matthew 16:24 from the Message Bible: “Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver seat, I am.” Jesus, as the captain of your life, wants to occupy the driver’s seat. He wants to be the Potter and you the malleable clay. Unfortunately, many Christians have strayed too far from God. Some are too proud for God to look their way, or too independent to be guided by God, or too obstinate for God to break, or too high-minded for God to counsel, or too sophisticated to enjoy God’s company, or too busy for God to get their attention. If Jesus must be the CAPTAIN of your life, you must avoid the seven vices mentioned above.

Beloved, if Jesus is truly your captain, you would get rid of any idol in your life. By idol, I mean any person, thing or desire that stands in the way of an immediate wholehearted “Yes, Lord!” to anything the Lord asks of you. Such a person, thing or desire must be eliminated. If Jesus is truly your captain, then He would be the One giving you commands and instructions and you would obey Him promptly and completely. Are you totally yielded to God and His word? Can you truly say that Jesus is your captain? Examine yourself!
