TOPIC: Dealing With Life’s Challenges (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 24 September 2024)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 55, Isaiah 56, Luke 21, Luke 22.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 38:1-8 (KJV)

1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord,

3 And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying,

5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.

7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he hath spoken;

8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

MFM Devotional For Today 2024 MESSAGE:

In life, there is no rose without thorns. What separates great men from mere mortals is simply the way each of them handles life’s challenges. Two separate accounts in the  Bible illustrate the wrong and right ways to deal with life’s challenges. In 1 Samuel 2:27-36, a man of God went to Eli and gave him a very disheartening judgement from the Lord: God had rejected Eli and his household as priests forever. Eli’s offence was that he did not restrain his sons who dishonoured God. His children, Hophni and Phineas, were taking the sacrifice that belonged to God. The sign that God had rejected him was that his two sons would die in one day and He would waste all that Eli had. It was a terrible judgment from the Lord. There is no record in the Bible that Eli prayed to God to change His verdict. Later in 1 Samuel 3:1-18, God appeared to Samuel and told him that He would judge Eli’s household. Samuel shared the revelation with him, but all Eli said was: “It is the Lord; let Him do what seemeth Him good.” By praying to God who is long suffering and keeps mercy for thousands and who forgives iniquity, sins and transgression, Eli would have averted the impending doom attached to the judgment he heard from the Lord. He did not do anything to salvage the situation. As a result, he and his household lost the priesthood. His sons, Hophni and Phineas died on the same day, and he too gave up the ghost when he heard the sad news of his sons’ death.

In contrast to the foregoing story, our text today is an interesting account of how Isaiah delivered God’s message to King Hezekiah: “Thus saith the Lord, set thine house in order, for thou shall die and shall not live.” It was an unpleasant piece of information. The bearer was a notable prophet of God, yet Hezekiah did not accept it as his fate. He turned to God in prayer. Through his supplication, he turned the sour to sweet. God sent Isaiah back to him with words of salvation, victory and preservation. The Most High added fifteen years to Hezekiah’s days. Indeed, prayer changes things; use it when life gives you lemons and heaven will change them to lemonade for you.
