MFM Devotional For Today 2023 MESSAGE:

Propitiation carries the idea of complete covering of our sins and complete satisfaction for our offenses. Generally, we know that our laws clearly states that certain crimes are to be punished with certain penalties. When one of the laws is broken, we have a system that requires a vindication for the crime committed. We call it justice.

God’s justice is the same, only that He treats all sins alike. The penalty for breaking law must be satisfied. God’s justice demands death; that is the penalty given to sinners. As sinners, we cannot do anything to correct our wrong because God loves us and wants to forgive us. He wants us to be free from the penalty of sin. God cannot set us free unless the demands of justice are met.

What is the demand for justice? Death is the penalty which God’s justice demands. There is no other one He accepts. As guilty law breakers, we cannot do anything to correct our wrong. The goodness is that God loves us and wants us to be free from the penalty of sin. Death is under consideration in the matter of propitiation. According to our memory verse, Romans 3:25, it was God who provided propitiation.

Leviticus 16 explains that the word “propitiation” was through nothing but the blood of Jesus It further explains how Aaron took the blood and sprinkled it upon the lid of the Ark of covenant, that is, the mercy seat. Below it is the box that contained the Ten Commandments which were the representatives of the law. This box is known as the Ark of Judgement.

On the day of atonement, the High Priest will stand before God’s judgement representing the people, sprinkling the sacrificial blood. The blood of Jesus was offered for us to give us righteousness and holiness from our sinful life, removing the penalty of sin which has separated us from God.
