TOPIC: Leadership Lessons From Bible Characters III (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 3 August 2021)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 1-3

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Psalms 15:1-5

1 LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

3 He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

5 He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

MEMORY VERSE: “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” – Proverbs 24:10

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
When you have endured the worse situations, you build the courage and confidence to cope with other situations.

PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a worship song as led by the Holy Spirit

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
The anointing for exemplary leadership is yours from now, in the name of Jesus.

The MESSAGE:

Oftentimes, great leaders go through adversity and tough life. God permits such because through them He builds the character of such leaders and mould them into what He can use for His glory. Therefore, another leadership lesson we can learn from Bible characters is that they endure inspite of circumstances. The truth is that leaders have a vision that sustains them through difficult times.

Joseph’s life was a record of seemingly endless trial, beginning from Genesis 37. He was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. Mrs Potiphar, his boss’s wife lied against him because he refused to sleep with her and he was thrown into prison. He interpreted the dream of a prisoner who was released and restored to his position, but the man forgot about him. Through divine intervention, Joseph became the Prime Minister of Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. When there was famine in Egypt, he became a national hero and solution provider, saving his family as well.

What sustained Joseph through difficult times? It was his God-given vision. God had shown him dreams of his glorious life and destiny as a great leader. He saw his brother’s sheaves bowing down to his own. He also saw eleven stars, moon and sun, bowing down to him. These dreams infuriated his brothers but marveled his father. The picture of a greater tomorrow empowered Joseph to endure the vicissitudes that characterised his journey earlier in life.

In His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ had to endure the pain and shame of the cross, knowing fully well that the glory that lay ahead of Him was far greater. Isaiah 53 paints the picture of what Jesus endured and the burden of sin he had to bear for mankind to become the greatest leader of all time. Jesus endured all these because He knew the glory that awaited Him with His Father. He was propelled by that clear vision.

Similarly, Apostle Paul was another leader who endured and completed his divine assignment inspite of persecution and tribulation. In 2 Corinthians 1:8, he said, “For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life.” Beloved, no matter what the enemy throws at you, endure hardship as a soldier of Christ.

EVENING

  1. Power and grace to stand and overcome temptation, fall upon me, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Father, as You fulfilled Joseph’s leadership and greatness dreams, fulfil my good dreams today, in the name of Jesus.
  3. My vision of a more glorious tomorrow shall not die, in the name of Jesus.
  4. I will complete my divine assignment and finish well, in the name of Jesus.
