43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

MEMORY VERSE: “And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.” – 2 Samuel 24:24 (KJV)

MFM Devotional For Today 2023 MESSAGE:

Sacrificial giving is a virtue God wants all His children to cultivate. You will find this godly virtue in the lives of people who have conquered selfishness and stinginess towards God and their fellow men. Sacrificial giving entails going beyond and above tithe to meet a significant need and display the love of Christ. The overriding objective is to give the best to God and to please Him at all cost. Sacrificial givers do not ask whether their tithe should be calculated based on net or gross. They do not stay fixed on ten percent and do not consider anything too big or too valuable to give to God.

In 2 Samuel 24:24-25, David needed to build an altar to offer God burnt offering so that He would stay the plague that was killing the Israelites in thousands. The angel of the Lord specified the location of the altar to be the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. When King David met Araunah, he told the king to take the place for free but David said to him, “No, but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offering unto the LORD my God of that which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.” Thus, when David built the altar and offered the peace offering, God stopped the plague.

Jesus painted a graphic picture of sacrificial giving with the story of the widow who gave all her living and she did so in her state of want. He declared that while others who cast their offering into the treasury did so out of their abundance, the widow did out of lack and want. Jesus, therefore, declared that she gave more than all others (Mark 12:41-44). The lesson here is that in God’s estimation, the size and quality of what you give is not determined by how much you give but what you have left after you have given. Acts 2:44-45 also shows that believers in the early church were also sacrificial givers.

Beloved, I advise you to offer to God the sacrifice that will move Him to bless you and move in your favour while you are here and when you might have gone to be with Him.
