BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 17:8-19:15; Matthew 22:34-23:12; Psalm 27:7-14; Proverbs 6:27-35
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 16:1-14 (KJV)
1 Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
3 And Sarai Abram’s wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
4 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
5 And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the Lord judge between me and thee.
6 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thine hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
7 And the angel of the Lord found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.
9 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
10 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
11 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou art with child and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the Lord hath heard thy affliction.
12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
13 And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?

MFM Devotional For Today 2024 MESSAGE:
The Hebrew name of God, El-Roi, is mentioned once in the Bible by someone that seems to be relatively unknown and insignificant.
Hagar was a maid to Sarai, Abraham’s wife. Sarai out of impatience and unwillingness to wait for God to fulfil His promise according to His timing, told her husband to have a child through her Egyptian maid, Hagar. Abraham agreed and Hagar gave birth to Ishmael. However, when Hagar became Abraham’s other wife, she became rude to Sarai and mocked her. Sarai became angry, reported Hagar to Abraham who told her to do whatever pleased her since Hagar was her maid. Sarai tormented Hagar so much that she ran away from home to the desert with Ishmael, her son. In the desert, they had no food or water and the baby cried incessantly. Hagar was highly distressed. She cried to God for help as she feared that her baby could die of hunger and thirst. An angel of God appeared to her and showed her a well of water. The angel also revealed to her the destiny of Ishmael, her son. Finally, the angel told her to return home and submit to her boss or mistress, Sarai. By this encounter, Hagar experienced the intervention of God, His help and comfort in the precarious situation she and her son found themselves. She had thought that she and her child were all alone in the desert and that no one saw them and that help was never going to come their way. Truly, the place was deserted, lonely and dry. However, God gave her a pleasant surprise. He proved that He saw Hagar and her baby. He heard their cry. He valued them and reached out to save and help them. That is why Hagar called the God who saw, heard, valued and rescued her and her child El-Roi -The God who sees her.
God saw Hagar, her plight, her pain, her maltreatment, her tears, her lack or need, her concern for the life of her child, her desperate need for help and intervention. God also saw that human help was far out of her sight and reach. He chose to reach out to her and save her and her child, providing a well and giving her words of comfort and assurance. The Same God will appear in your situation today!
