TOPIC: Leadership Lessons From Bible Characters (VI) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 6 August 2021)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 10-13

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 17:32-37

32 And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.” – 1 Samuel 17:51

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:

The MESSAGE:

Life is full of lessons and wise people learn them daily. Another important leadership lesson we all need to learn is that leaders are not afraid of giants. True leaders confront formidable oppositions and conquer them; they don’t run away from challenges. The word “giants” stand for enemies of progress, stiff opposition, hindrances, storms, battles and challenges. Every great vision will be opposed and troubled by the enemy. However, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Great leaders don’t quit in the face of challenges.

Someone described leadership as influence. A leader can spread optimism or pessimism, victory or defeat, success or failure. The Bible says that when you strike the shepherd the sheep will scatter. If a leader loses courage, it will quickly spread through the rank and file of his followership. David stands out as our example in this instance. He fought many battles but he never lost one. Each battle he fought was facing a Goliath. His life was full of challenges before and after he became king. While professional soldiers in Israel cringed and ran each time Goliath of Gath, the Philistine champion, roared and challenged Israel’s soldiers to a single combat, David decided to confront him and was so sure that the God of Israel would enable him to overcome the uncircumcised Philistine. In the end he beheaded Goliath; Israel went on to discomfit the Philistines and that marked the rise and rise of David!

Similarly, Moses was not afraid to confront Pharaoh, the greatest king on earth at that time. He went in the name of Jehovah and the magicians of Egypt bowed to His God. He used the ten plagues and the Red Sea incident, where Pharaoh and his hosts perished, to prove that there is no God like Jehovah. Joshua led the children of Israel successfully to the Promised Land because he was not afraid of “giants”. He conquered nations and their kings and took their land for God. The walls of Jericho fell down flat with the help of God. Finally, Jesus conquered “giants” like satan and demons, sicknesses and diseases, the world, sin, death and hell and restored dominion to man.

Beloved, if you would ever be a great leader (spiritually or physically), you must not be afraid of giants. Outstanding leaders are known by their bravery, the giants and oppositions they overcome as well as the problems they solve. This is a great lesson of leadership I want you to take to heart.
