TOPIC: A Word Of Advice To Fathers (2) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 6 August 2024)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 8, Proverbs 9, 1 Peter 5, 2 Peter 1.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Esther 2:5-11 (KJV)

5 Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;

6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.

7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.

8 So it came to pass, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.

9 And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged to her, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her, out of the king’s house: and he preferred her and her maids unto the best place of the house of the women.

10 Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it.

11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women’s house, to know how Esther did, and what should become of her.

MFM Devotional For Today 2024 MESSAGE:

Still on the parenting style of Mordecai, we shall look at how he played his fatherly role in Esther’s life. Let us note certain traits from our Memory Verse. “Every day Mordecai strolled beside the court of the harem to find out how Esther was and get news of what she was doing.” (Esther 2:11 MSG). The first thing I want to point out is the word “everyday”. This connotes that he never allows one day to pass without checking up on how and what Esther was doing. Some parents, once a child gains admission into higher institution and starts to live away from them, they leave such child to fate, believing that he or she is grown enough to look after himself or herself. In fact, some parents even go the extent of leaving the total care of their secondary school children in the hands of boarding house parents. No checking, nothing. They only send money and that is all, as if money is all there is to life. Even some children under the roof and nose of some parents have been left to themselves. Nobody cares and no one is around to provide answers to their heart- burning questions, and soon they will get answers from beggarly places and sources. This is not a trait in Mordecai. He was around every day, no matter his schedule.

We need to emulate this man in parenting. We must make it a point of duty to pray and speak over our children every day. There must be a time of family devotion with them every day. We should not leave our children to figure out all of life’s questions on their own. Let’s be there to give them answers. Sometimes, like Mordecai, take a stroll to their schools unannounced to see what and how they are doing. This is not a way to witch-hunt them but to lovingly guide them aright.

Fathers, let’s rise up to our responsibility and let us be fathers with a difference. I understand that our schedules are tight but few minutes out of a whole 24 hours will not be bad to check up on our children.
As we are building careers and empires, don’t forget that untrained children can bring down a great empire in a moment.

MORNING

  1. My children shall not be wayward, in the Name of Jesus.
  2. My children shall be ten times better than their equals, in the Name of Jesus.
  3. My children, shine forth, in the Name of Jesus.

EVENING

  1. The enemy will not quench my light, in the Name of Jesus.
  2. I refuse to leave a bad legacy, in the Name of Jesus.
  3. As a father over my home, I command speed and favour over my children, in the Name of Jesus.
  4. I connect my children to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, in the Name of Jesus.
