A. MEMORY VERSE: “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh”. Galatians 5:16

B. BIBLE TEXT: GALATIANS 5:13-24

  1. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
  2. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
  3. Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
  4. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
  5. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
  6. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts

C. LESSON INTRODUCTION: We will be focusing on how to produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit as Christians. We receive the Holy Spirit at the point of salvation accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour (Ephesians 1:13-14). Therefore, it is impossible to grow the spirit if you do not belong to Christ.

WHAT IS THE FRUIT?
Galatians 5:22-23 enumerates the fruit as: Love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, gentleness, longsuffering, faithfulness, self-control. They are all Christ-like virtues that we are supposed to exhibit in increasing measures as we relate with God and the people around us – family, work, church, neighbourhood, in public etc. They are not somewhere we put on and put off when we like or not.

HOW TO GROW THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT?

  1. Acknowledge and renounce old sin tendencies through prayers and obedience to the word of God. Proverbs 28:13
  2. Know the fruit of the Spirit and pray earnestly for God to help you begin to manifest them.
  3. Look for opportunities to practice them trusting the Holy Spirit to prompt you.
  4. Expect God to use your life relationships and experiences to grow these fruits in you as you cooperate with Him.
  5. Patiently watch them develop, just like what happens to a seed that needs time to grow and mature. 2 Peter 3:18.

CONCLUSION: Have you any gift? Have you been using them? Are they lost and you want to regain them? Or you want more? Why not talk to God about it?

PRAYER POINTS

  1. Father, please create in me a contrite heart that can grow Your fruit.
  2. Father, set my life on fire and destroy every manifestation of the flesh.
  3. Father, help me to grow in love, faith, joy, peace and goodness etc.
  4. Father, circumcise my heart afresh.
  5. Mention that particular sin you have been struggling with over time asking God to deliver you from it.
  6. Father, let the fruit of the Spirit always be seen in Your church RCCG.
