READ: Matthew 9:16-17

  1. No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.
  2. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 4-6, John 12:20-50

MESSAGE:

In today’s Bible reading, Jesus emphasized the need to use the right container for the appropriate liquid in order to preserve both of them. Can you imagine filling the tyre of a car with fuel instead of air and travelling with it? You can be sure the car and its passengers would be roasted on the way. Both content and container would be lost.

Children of God are like tyres and the Holy Spirit is the air that should fill them up for effective performance. This is why Ephesians 5:18 says put in the right content – the Holy Spirit into your body. If He is in you, alcohol and other sins such as anger, malice, lies, cheating et cetera will not be found in you.

If you want the tyres of a car to function properly, you have to gauge them daily. When you spend time in God’s presence, you are gauging your spiritual tyres so that you can withstand any rough terrain and weight as you are journey in life. If you want to have a smooth ride, spend more time with the Holy Spirit.

KEY POINT:

How often do you gauge your tyre?

HYMN 1: All Hail The Power Of Jesus Name

  1. All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ name!
    Let angels prostrate fall.
    Bring forth the royal diadem,
    And crown him Lord of all.
  2. Crown Him, ye martyrs of our God,
    Who from His alter call;
    Extol the stem of Jesse’s rod,
    And crown him Lord of all.
  3. Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race,
    A remnant weak and small,
    Hail Him who saves you by His grace,
    And crown him Lord of all.
  4. Ye Gentile sinners, ne’er forget
    the wormwood and the gall;
    Go, spread your trophies at His feet,
    And crown him Lord of all.
  5. Let every kindred, every tribe,
    On this terrestrial ball,
    To Him all majesty ascribe,
    And crown Him Lord of all.
  6. O that with yonder sacred throng
    We at His feet may fall,
    Join in the everlasting song,
    And crown Him Lord of all.
