TOPIC: What Is On Your Playlist? (Open Heaven for Teens 1 June 2024)

MEMORISE: And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear:… Mark 4:24

READ: Isaiah 33:14-16

14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;

16 He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

MESSAGE

Every believer is a work in progress, and one of the things that can cause either a progression or regression in our walk with God is what we listen to, including what is on our playlists. What you listen to goes a long way in shaping your thoughts and influencing your actions.

Do you only listen to gospel music on Sundays or when you need things from God? The truth is, you will become what you train your ears to hear. When I first gave my life to Christ, I still used to listen to songs by worldly musicians. Interestingly, they were not ‘bad songs’; I mean, you can’t compare the oldies to the noise today’s generation of artistes make in the name of music. One Tuesday, I went for Bible study and the teacher taught on listening to worldly music. When I got back home, I quickly gathered all the music records that I had and burnt them; I had peace afterwards.

My dear child, every musical piece has a spirit behind it. You cannot desire to hear God clearly and yet listen to songs that are not scriptural and spiritual. Get rid of those songs that do not glorify God like I did many years ago. Remember, obedience is better than sacrifice.

ACTION POINT

Pick your phone, delete every worldly song and replace them with godly songs.

HYMN 12 – Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty

1. Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons,
Blessed Trinity!

2 Holy, holy, holy!
All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns
Around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim,
Falling down before Thee,
Which went and art
And evermore shalt be.

3 Holy, holy, holy!
Though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man
Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy,
There is none beside Thee,
Perfect in pow’r, in love,
And purity.

4 Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise
Thy name, in earth and sky and sea;
Holy, Holy, Holy!
Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons,
Blessed Trinity!
