  1. I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
  2. For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
  3. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
  4. Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 22-23, Ephesians 3:1-21

MESSAGE:

In our Bible text for today, Paul in his letter to Timothy admonishes us to pray for leaders. Praying for leaders is very necessary not just for the sake of the leaders but for the followers because the actions of the leaders would affect all. So, what and how are we supposed to pray for leaders? We should pray for their character, their circle of friends particularly their advisers, the process of making decisions, their emotional well-being and families. All these and some other factors determine their performance as leaders.

Note that not only political leaders need to be prayed for; prayers should be made for spiritual leaders too. Zechariah 13:7b says:

“Smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.”

The devil knows that if he attacks the spiritual leader, the sheep will scatter, so, pray for them. You should also pray for the leaders of industries, those at the forefront of innovations, leaders in charge of the defence of the country et cetera.

ACTION POINT:

Spend time praying for the leaders today.

HYMN 18: What A Friend We Have In Jesus

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear;
    What a privilege to carry
    Ev’rything to God in prayer
    Oh! what peace we often forfeit,
    Oh! what needless pain we bear
    All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer.
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer
    Can we find a Friend so faithful
    Who will all our sorrow share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer.
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
    Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Saviour still our refuge,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer
    Do thy friends despise,
    forsake thee?
    Take it to the Lord in prayer
    In His arms He’ll take
    and shield thee,
    Thou wilt find a solace there.
