TOPIC: King Nebuchadnezzar (Open Heaven for Teens 10 August 2024)

MEMORISE: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble, James 4:6

READ: Daniel 4:28-33

  1. All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.
  2. At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
  3. The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
  4. While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
  5. And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
  6. The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’. feathers, and his nails like birds’. claws.

MESSAGE:

The Babylonian empire was a great kingdom that was ruled by powerful kings. In today’s Bible reading, we see that King Nebuchadnezzar was wealthy and well honoured by his people. This made him arrogant to the extent that he boasted about his achievements and accomplishment. He had forgotten that God enthrones and dethrones, and He alone empowers and enriches. Therefore, God humbled Nebuchadnezzar; for seven years, he lost his mind and lived like an animal. When he finally regained his sanity, he acknowledged the sovereignty of God.

One key lesson to learn from the life of this king is that it is a dangerous thing to be humbled by God. If you humble yourself before God, He will promote you. However, if He humbles you Himself, He might do so through an incident that would leave a dent in your life.

When God humbles a man, he becomes a ridicule before men. Imagine a whole king who lived in the ambience of a big palace eating grass. My dear child, there’s nothing you have that was not given to you. You can never attain any height in life except God permits you. Therefore, learn to be humble and give Him all the glory. Even when people praise you, return the glory to God.

KEY POINT:

It is better to be humble than to allow God to humble you.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ezra 10:1-44; 1Corinthians 6:1-20

HYMN 58: My Hope Is Built On Nothing Else

  1. My hope is built on nothing less
    Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
    I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
    But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

  1. When darkness seems to veils His face,
    I rest on His unchanging grace;
    In every high and stormy gale,
    My anchor holds within the veil.
  2. His oath, His covenant, and blood,
    Support me in the whelming flood;
    When all around my soul gives way,
    He then is all my hope and stay.
  3. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
    Oh, may I then in Him be found;
    Dressed in His righteousness alone,
    Faultless to stand before the throne.
