MEMORISE: Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the LORD: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street. Lamentations 2:19

READ: Luke 6:12

12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 21-22, John 3:1-36

MESSAGE:

To watch in the night means to keep vigils. It is a time to stay awake in the night to praise God, talk to Him on certain issues or intercede on behalf of another person while others are sleeping. I know that it might not be easy to keep a vigil but then, it is very good and has a lot of benefits.

When you watch in the night, you have enough time to communicate with your Father because there are fewer distractions. It also shows that you are Christ-like as seen in the Bible reading for today. Jesus Christ prayed all night. If He could, why cant you? You can start with one hour and then grow. You may not even ask for anything. You can sing praises to God like the Psalmist in Psalm 119:62:

“At midnight I shall rise to give thanks to Thee because of Thy righteous judgement.”

If you practise this over time, you will get used to vigils. It will also help you in your academics because it will become easy to keep awake in order to study.

ACTION POINT:

Spend an hour praising God this night between 12 midnight and 3:00am.

HYMN: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER

  1. All to Jesus I surrender,
    All to Him I freely give;
    I will ever love and trust Him,
    In His presence daily live.

CHORUS
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

  1. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Humbly at His feet I bow;
    Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
    Take me, Jesus, take me now.
  2. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Lord, I give myself to Thee;
    Fill me with Thy love and power,
    Let Thy blessing fall on me.
  3. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Now I feel the sacred flame;
    O the joy of full salvation!
    Glory, glory to His name!
