TOPIC: Do You Know Jesus [Open Heaven for Teens 10 May 2023]

MEMORISE: And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. Matthew 26:72

READ: Matthew 16:13-16

13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

MESSAGE

The first time I read Philippians 3:10 as a young believer, I wondered what else Paul wanted to know about Jesus that he had not known already. Now, I know better. Some Christians would see this question as irrelevant since they are already familiar with who Jesus is. We may not know Jesus in His fullness until we see Him in glory. In Matthew 16:15, Jesus did not assume His disciples knew Him enough. After being with them for months, He had to ask who they thought He was.

Many people claim to know Jesus, yet, they do not know His will, His words, and His ways. They argue about simple Biblical doctrines. Knowing Jesus is not just about being familiar with His story but knowing His ministry, death, resurrection, the truth in His word, His person through the Holy Spirit, and what He expects of you in every moment. How much of Jesus do you know?

KEY POINT
To know Jesus, spend time with His word.

HYMN 21 – I Want To Be Like Jesus

  1. I want to be like Jesus,
    So lowly and so meek;
    For no one mark’d an angry word,
    That ever heard Him speak,
  2. I want to be like Jesus,
    So frequently in prayer;
    Alone upon the mountain top,
    He met his Father there.
  3. I want to be like Jesus,
    I never, never find
    That He, though persecuted was
    To anyone unkind.
  4. I want to be like Jesus,
    Engaged in doing good;
    So that of me it may be said
    “He hath done what he could.”
  5. I want to be like Jesus,
    Who sweetly said to all,
    “Let little children come to Me;”
    I would obey the call.
  6. But oh I’m not like Jesus,
    As anyone may see;
    O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
    And make me like to Thee
