TOPIC: Parable Of The Good Samaritan II [Open Heaven for Teens 11 March 2023]

MEMORISE: And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:31

READ: Luke 10:29-37

29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joshua 21-22

MESSAGE

The only person who eventually passed by and helped the injured man was the Samaritan. In Jesus’ days, Samaritans were considered a low class of people by the Jews since they did not keep all the laws. In fact, he was the least person likely to have shown compassion for the man.

The “Good Samaritan” dressed the man’s wounds with wine (to disinfect) and oil (to soothe the pain), put the man on his animal and took him to an inn for a time of healing, and paid the innkeeper with his own money. When I see or hear about young people who are always eager to work for God or give towards any kingdom project, my heart jumps for joy. They have cultivated a habit that will register their name in the book of life as long as they keep pleasing God.

No one has to see the good you’re doing: just ensure that it’s coming from a pure heart with the right motive, which is to glorify God.

PRAYER POINT

Father, I want to be a true Christian in words and deeds. Please give me a heart of compassion for the needy and lost souls.

HYMN 21 – I Want To Be Like Jesus

  1. I want to be like Jesus,
    So lowly and so meek;
    For no one mark’d an angry word,
    That ever heard Him speak,
  2. I want to be like Jesus,
    So frequently in prayer;
    Alone upon the mountain top,
    He met his Father there.
  3. I want to be like Jesus,
    I never, never find
    That He, though persecuted was
    To anyone unkind.
  4. I want to be like Jesus,
    Engaged in doing good;
    So that of me it may be said
    “He hath done what he could.”
  5. I want to be like Jesus,
    Who sweetly said to all,
    “Let little children come to Me;”
    I would obey the call.
  6. But oh I’m not like Jesus,
    As anyone may see;
    O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
    And make me like to Thee
