TOPIC: Take Care Of Your Vision (Open Heaven for Teens 11 September 2024)
MEMORISE: The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. Matthew 6:22
READ: Luke 11:33-36
33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.
34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
MESSAGE:
The eyes are the gates of the body, they give the mind access to the world and help to show the body in which direction it should move. Imagine how uncomfortable it would be if you had to work or sit in the dark.
Sadly, many young people are gradually neglecting to take care of their eyes and are running the risk of developing bad eyesight or even becoming blind. God made your eyes to give you light, and you must be careful how you use them.
One of the major ways many young people are careless with their eyesight is by spending unlimited time on their phones and laptops, thereby exposing their eyes to a lot of harmful electromagnetic rays. This is one of the reasons they battle with eye and other health issues at a young age. By the grace of God, even though I am 82 years old, I have never used a pair of medicated glasses. I use electronic gadgets, but I ensure that I control my screen time.
For example, I use the hard copy of my Bible during my quiet time, which runs into hours, but when I am preaching for less than an hour, I use the Bible app on my phone to maximise time.
Dear child, for your eyes to be healthy, you must control your screen time, eat foods that are rich in vitamin E, and rest your eyes often.
REFLECTION
How will you do God’s work if you lose your eyesight?
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Isaiah 8:1-9:21 2 Corinthians 12:1
HYMN 45: O GOD OUR HELP IN AGES PAST
- O God, Our Help In Ages Past
Our Hope For Years To Come
Our Shelter From The Stormy Blast
And Our Eternal Home - Under The Shadow Of Thy Throne
Thy Saints Have Dwelt Secure
Sufficient Is Thine Arm Alone
And Our Defence Is Sure - Before The Hills In Order Stood
Or Earth Received Her Frame
From Everlasting Thou Art God
To Endless Years The Same - A Thousand Ages In Thy Sight
Are Like An Evening Gone
Short As The Watch That Ends The Night
Before The Rising Sun - Time, Like An Ever-Rolling Stream
Bears All Its Sons Away
They Fly Forgotten, As A Dream
Dies At The Opening Day - O God, Our Help In Ages Past
Our Hope For Years To Come
Be Thou Our Guard While Trouble Last
And Our Eternal Home
