TOPIC: Acceptable Addiction [Open Heaven for Teens 12 July 2022]
MEMORISE: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Acts 17:28
READ: Deuteronomy 6:4-9
- Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
- And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
- And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
- And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
- And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
- And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Acts 17:1-34, Psalms 7-9
MESSAGE:
The only type of addiction expected of a heaven-bound child of God is the one that is centred on Jesus. You will know such a fellow by the things he/she surrounds himself/herself with. His/her intoxication is expressed through the decorations or posters in his/her room, the friends he/she keeps and the content he/she reads or listens to. When people experience a person’s lifestyle and confess to you that this boy or girl is in love with Jesus, then you know that this is a welcome addiction.
How can you become a Jesus addict? One can become a Jesus addict by reading God’s word, memorising and meditating on it, glorifying God through songs, attending godly events, avoiding evil communication, reading good books, having godly thoughts, et cetera. Everything you do should be a constant reminder of Jesus second coming. Yes! Jesus is coming back for only those who are addicted to Him on earth. He will come unannounced like a thief in the night. Don’t be caught unawares.
PRAYER POINT:
Father, please help me to be addicted to You.
HYMN: I Am Thine O Lord
- I am Thine, O Lord,
I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise
in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.
CHORUS
Draw me nearer,
nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer,
nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.
- Consecrate me now to
Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up
with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine. - Oh, the pure delight
of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer,
and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend! - There are depths of love
that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy
that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.
