8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

MESSAGE

Violence is a serious weakness that reflects a fellow’s lack of self-control. It doesn’t stand alone, but it has siblings, as written in our text for today. A violent person is angry, full of malice, speaks rashly and curses a lot. Such people share a resemblance with their father – satan, the originator of violence. Research has shown that violent teenagers picked up the violent trait from parents who have issues with power, control and manipulation. Clearly, this is not an attribute of God.

Dear son/daughter, are you currently in an abusive relationship, hoping the person will change? I command you to break free in the name of Jesus. You are not the changer, only the Holy Spirit can do that. The Bible says in Proverbs 22:24-25:

“Make no friendship with an angry man: and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul”.

For you to remain sane, you must cultivate a peaceful environment always. Run away from situations where violence or fighting may cause you to be physically or emotionally injured.

BIBLE QUIZ:
Which Old Testament book does not
contain the word “God?”
a) Esther
b) Ruth
c) Lamentations
d) Obadiah

KEY POINT:

Violence is never a justifiable response to provocation.

HYMN 5 – Take My Life And Let It Be

  1. Take my life and let it
    Consecrated Lord to Thee
    Take my moment and my days
    Let them flow ceaseless praise.
  2. Take my hands and let them move
    At the impulse of Thy love
    Take my feet and let them be
    Swift and beautiful for thee
  3. Take my voice and let me sing
    Always only for my king;
    Take my lips and let them be
    Filled with messages from Thee.
  4. Take my sliver and my gold
    Not a mite would I withhold
    Take my intellect, and use
    Every power as thou shalt choose.
  5. Take my will and make it Thine,
    It shall no longer mine:
    Take my heart, it is Thine own;
    It shall be Thy royal throne,
  6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
    At Thy feet its treasure store;
    Take myself, and I will be
    Ever, only, all for thee
